Community Events.....Summer 2014.
Junior Rowing, where we take up to 80 yougsters rowing in our dinghies on a Monday evening. See seperate page.
Workers from Loyds Bank in Teignmouth wanted to organise a sponsored row to raise funds for The Altzimers Society, and they came to Shaldon Regatta for help. We supplied 2 Seine Boats and equipment, and 2 coxes in the Shape of Mark Pile and Ray Edworthy. The 2 teams had 30 mins of practice, and then the race started between the ladies team and the men's. Considering most were novices in a boat let alone rowing, they did really well. The ladies won the race to Coombe Cellars, and duly celebrated with a cooling drink. The men won the race back to the bridge, after which the 2 crews took different routes back to the beach. A great day was had by all, and £600 was raised for the charity.
Shaldon Regatta was very happy to help.
The photos below record the day. Click on the pics to get the full story.
Shaldon Regatta supported Rachael Cooks" Summer Camp" which she organised for foster children. We launched our fleet of Regatta Dinghies ,and with a cox in each boat took 2 parties of children out rowing on 2 occasions. Both groups arrived as landlubbers and went away rowers, having had a "fantastic time," as they said.
We are awaiting pictures.
We hope to help with any future initiatives such as this which gets youngsters onto the water and enjoying it safely.
